From 31st October 2025, the new version of Judas Kiss will be going live (paperback and Kindle/Unlimited) with the rest of the trilogy coming shortly after. All dates TBA.

If you purchase (Kindle) or borrow (Kindle Unlimited) after 31st October, you will only get the new files. But what happens if you already have an OG copy on your Kindle?  - do you have to buy it again? Here’s the low-down!

The TLDR here is -NO -you should not have to buy it again. However, as always, it is not quite as simple as getting an automatic update or getting a PUSH notification from Kindle.  When you purchased your version, that is the one you own, but you can get the updates.

I’ll walk you through it all though.

Here’s what you need to do according to Amazon:-

In all cases, (Kindle / Kindle Unlimited)  go to your Amazon account.

> Manage content & devices.

At the top of the page you will have 4 options:- Content, Devices, Preferences and Privacy Settings.

> Select PREFERENCES.

Scroll down, and near the bottom of the page you will see AUTOMATIC BOOK UPDATES.

>Select the dropdown.

You will see this as either ON or OFF. Ensure that you have it switched ON.

Please note Amazon also states:-

“In order to preserve your reading progress, bookmarks, notes, highlights and annotations across different versions of books, make sure that all of your Kindle devices and reading apps have ‘Annotations Backup’ or ‘Sync’ turned on.”

Depending on the type of update - you may get an automatic sync to the new version - but this is not always guaranteed. From what I can understand, this is often down to how KDP views the amendments.

If the above doesn’t activate the new version, you may need to complete the steps below.

DOWNLOADED (purchased) COPIES

As the author, I am trying to get Amazon to send you a PUSH notification that the update is available. Below are the KDP requirements for this:

  • We only send customers updates to serious quality issues. Sending customers updated content may erase notes or highlights they entered, so the improvements must outweigh the disadvantages. We won't accept your request if you:

    • Added, deleted, or changed words, sentences, pages, chapters, or images that are not related to quality issues.

    • Changed a character's name or your eBook's plot.

    • Added, deleted, or changed links or marketing information

    • Made significant changes that warrant a new edition.

I am making the book(s) a new edition, so I am hoping they accept that - however, I have to send them the location of every change to check it meets their requirements etc. If they agree to this, you will be notified and automatically sent the file. I’ll also put an update on my socials so you know.

WHAT IF AMAZON WON’T AUTOMATICALLY PUSH THE NEW EDITION?

Fear not! You will still be able to access the new edition!

Firstly, contact Kindle Customer Support - tell them book details and request that the updated version be sent to your Kindle device.

Amazon should contact you (relatively quickly) just to advise you that by accepting a new version, you may lose any highlights, previous progress etc. If you agree to this, they will send you the updated file.

If for whatever reason this does not work, please contact me either using the form below or via Facebook / Instagram and I’ll see what I can do to assist.

KINDLE UNLIMITED READERS

According to what I can find on the interwebs, simply re-borrowing the book may not always get you the revised edition, it may revert to the one you had previously. If this happens, please follow these steps to get the updated one:-

> Go to your Amazon account.

>Manage content & devices.

>Find JUDAS KISS (or whatever book you need to update).

>If there is an update you will see “Update Available”

>Select Update.

If this doesn't bring up the latest content (the copyright page will show if it is the 2025 version), please contact Kindle Customer Support.
